The wave he gave

/I sort of sabotaged the third chapter of my short story, so it’ll be published next week. In the meantime here’s an interlude. The following poem is inspired by and shares a title with a (soon to be released via YouTube) short film, directed by my friend/

It’s been a while since he stood on this shore.

The sands were eager to erase his trail.

But we’ll remember images and forms,

The wave he gave.

He jumped and swayed to his own catchy tunes,

Deposed the masters and unchained the slaves.

We won’t forget the sea salt in his wounds,

The wave he gave.

He made the ocean to expose its lore,

Discovered peaceful bays and ancient caves.

We’ll go along the paths that he explored,

The wave he gave.

And though we miss him much, we will not mourn.

If he were ever to return again,

We would be swept away by rains and storms

By wave he gave.
